After an Injury
What to do immediately
PRICE
Immediately after an injury the ideal treatment to the injured site would include…
P | Protection from further damage |
R | Rest to avoid prolonged irritation |
I | Ice for controlling pain, bleeding and edema |
C | Compression for support and controlling swelling |
E | Elevation for decreasing bleeding and edema |
These are good procedures to practice after an injury or strain to minimize hemorrhaging, swelling, inflammation, and pain as well as to jumpstart the healing process.
The aim of following these procedures is to minimize hemorrhaging, swelling, inflammation, and pain and to provide optimal practices for healing. Inflammation is the body’s response to injury, however prolonged inflammation may lead to excessive scarring. The sooner one begins the treatment the more effective the treatment will be.
